Our Story:
Gates Upstate Anatolians has been involved with Anatolians since 2000, we started looking for the right breeder, and the
right dogs. We talked to many people and finally chose the one that was
right for us. We were on a waiting list for almost 2 years with this
breeder. We purchased our first Anatolian Male, Tamoora's Kasmir of
Gates, (Kasmir) in 2002. We knew what we were looking for good
temperament, working ability, and show quality. So we had to be patient
and we waited. It was definitely worth the wait. We could not
have asked for a better dog. Bev started obedience training and
socialization with him at 16 weeks old, and she continued with refresher
courses, even now that he is 5 years old. Kasmir arrived at his new home while my
oldest daughter was barely 6 years old, and my youngest daughter was 4
years old. He has been "tested" by these two repeatedly, and has proven
himself to have the best disposition that could be asked for. Bev can take him anywhere, and often does. She takes him to hospitals, to
friends homes, work, and parties. She was even able to show
him, and make him a champion, without the assistance of a professional
handler within 6 months. He is the first dog that she
has ever shown. Bev believes the dog himself won the championship, as he
usually captivates the attention of everyone around him at shows, etc.
It was all him, because it surely wasn't Bev. After two years, we
decided that it was time to get a female, so the search began. We
knew what we wanted...a brindle. The search this time was a lot easier, as
we knew more people who owned Anatolians. Friends of ours actually owned
a male brindle that he was planning on breeding. We called him, and
let him know that we were looking for a brindle female. In 2005
Passport Redwing Sardonyx of Gates (Alaca) came into our lives. Alaca
was very outgoing and loved our attention and was our next show project
starting later on that year. We couldn't wait, because she definitely had
what it took to be a champion. She also has a very high livestock
guardian instinct. Bev took her to obedience class since she
was about 16 weeks old. She went to work with Bev a few times a month
and has been to the local hospital visiting elderly people. Both dogs
are very attached to our two young children. We feel so safe knowing that
our dogs are outside watching them while they are playing.
Our main goal is to have offspring that pass on the great qualities
of these two beautiful animals. We have a strong desire to enhance the
breed. This is one of the main reasons we
are studding Kasmir. We, however, do believe in quality and not quantity,
so we will be very selective of the bitches Kasmir breeds.
